Poll Shows Strong Public Support for Career and Technical Education

Phi Delta Kappa International released its 49th annual report titled, Poll of the Public’s Attitudes Toward the Public Schools. The wide-ranging survey of education issues was conducted in May 2017 with more than 1,500 people in all 50 states. 

Career-related courses in public high schoolsSome of the poll’s findings related to career and technical education (CTE) include:

  • 82 percent of respondents believes public high schools should offer job or career skills classes.
  • More than half of respondents said their local schools should offer more CTE classes.
  • 86 percent of respondents believe students should have access to certificate or licensing programs through local schools.
