Maryland Senate Bill Seeks to Require OEM or Certified Aftermarket Collision Repair Parts

The legislation, similar to a bill that was withdrawn last year, seeks to require insurers to authorize only OEM or certified collision repair parts. Hearing scheduled for March.

Maryland Senate Bill 1007 (SB 1007), introduced by Senate Minority Leader J.B. Jennings (R) on February 3, seeks to require automobile insurers to authorize repairs using original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts or non-OEM parts that are certified by an independent non-profit entity.

The legislation is similar to Maryland House Bill 1258 (HB 1258) that was the subject of hearing before the Maryland House Committee on Economic Matters in March 2016. That legislation
