Alliance for Automotive Innovation petitions NHTSA to reconsider final rule that would require automatic emergency braking systems on all new vehicles in 2029 calling technology impractical.
The Alliance of Automotive Innovation, that represents vehicle manufacturers, yesterday petitioned the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to reconsider its Final Rule on Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) and Pedestrian Automatic Emergency Braking (PAEB) that was finalized in April.
The rule requires AEB and PAEB systems to be standard on all passenger cars and light trucks by September 2029.
