NHTSA Warns on 2015-2019 Lincoln MKC Park Outside Recall for Fire Risk

June 5, 2023 By CollisionWeek Editor

NHTSA announced that Lincoln has issued a new recall for 142,734 model year 2015-2019 Lincoln MKC vehicles due to a risk of fire. Owners should park their vehicles outside and away from structures and other vehicles until the recall has been remedied.

On these vehicles, the battery monitor sensor may short-circuit and overheat, causing a fire in the engine compartment while parked or driving. As of May 15, 2023, the company was aware of 19 potentially related reports of under-hood fires, including 11 instances in the United States, seven in China, and one in Canada.

The risk of fire exists even when the vehicle is parked and turned off. This month, the company will notify affected owners of the fire risk, advising them to park outside until they can have their vehicles fixed. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a Lincoln dealer to have an in-line fuse added to the battery monitor sensor power circuit.
