Freedom to Repair Act Introduced in U.S. House to Limit Copyright Law Impact on Right to Repair

On February 2, Reps. Mondaire Jones (D-NY) and Victoria Spartz (R-IN) announced the are sponsoring the Freedom to Repair Act, right to repair legislation that would stop companies from, in what the authors of the legislation say, are companies abusing copyright law to deny people the right to repair their own devices or take them to locally-owned repair shops, without subjecting these small businesses to civil or criminal penalties. To guarantee the freedom to repair, this legislation would legalize repairing what you own or taking it to the repair shop of your choice.
