Gasoline Consumption and Mobility Increased After February Storms

After declining the week winter storms hit at highest rate since April, gasoline consumption bounced back at third highest rate since May’s recovery began. Dallas Fed Mobility Index at best level since start of pandemic.

The impact of severe winter storms that caused widespread power outages in Texas and hazardous driving conditions elsewhere impacted mobility and gasoline consumption statistics in the second half of February. For southern states impacted by the storm, the decline in mobility was actually worse than at the start of the pandemic in April.
