Massachusetts Voters Approve Ballot Question to Amend Right to Repair Law

Measure prohibits vehicle manufacturers from requiring their authorization before consumers and independent repair facilities can access diagnostic data unless done through independent third-party.

While much of the country is awaiting results on the election for President, voters in Massachusetts gave vehicle owners and independent repairers a victory over vehicle manufacturers on the issue of wireless access to diagnostic data as well banning vehicle manufacturer from requiring their authorization to access the data.

Massachusetts Ballot Question 1 proposes to amend the existing Right to Repair laws in the Commonwealth to expand access to mechanical data necessary to perform vehicle maintenance and
