New Vehicle Sales Up Slightly in 2018, Forecast for 2019 is Down

Light trucks up as car market share falls to lowest point in U.S. history.

According the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) despite rising interest rates and a volatile stock market, U.S. light-vehicle sales closed out 2018 strong. The Seasonally Adjusted Annual Rate (SAAR) of sales was 17.51 million in December 2018 was the second highest of the year, as sales for the month were up 1.5 percent compared to December 2017.
