I understand that the OEM has started to use additional programs in order to prevent companies like AirPro, AsTech RAP and others by requiring the computer or scanning programming device, the software and the car all be in the same location. 2018 Chrysler 300 and newer models from FCA as well as the 2019 Ford Explorer require (Ford call it FRDS) this type of triangulated software for clearing codes and programming. Long distance programming from one spot to cars all over the country will make the software so expensive from the OEM that it will create havoc with many shops.
It.s commonly known that all remote programming systems have many limitations. The recent win in court is for diagnostics by the owner of the car and diagnostics only. Many of these companies claim they can calibrate the car systems remotely as well.
I have seen several shoips that so misunderstand the need for proper diagnostics and calibration that they are using the lot boy or sweeper to handle the remote diagnostics.
