Rhode Island Legislature Passes Amended OEM Collision Repair Parts and Procedures Bills

June 25, 2018 By CollisionWeek Editor

Legislation that expands consumer choice requirement for insurers on OEM parts to 48 months now goes to Governor.

In a flurry of activity on Friday and Saturday, the Rhode Island legislature passed legislation, Senate Bills 2679 and House Bill 8013, that would expand the state’s existing requirement that consumers be given the right to choose and insurers pay for OEM parts on claims for 30 months after a vehicle is manufactured to all claims for a period of 48 months.

In addition to increasing the number of months that insurers are prohibited from paying for aftermarket parts without written consent
