Rhode Island Senate Unanimously Approves Legislation to Expand Non-OEM Collision Repair Parts Restrictions, OEM Procedures

Bill expands the time frame for consumers to require OEM parts to 48 months.

The Rhode Island Senate approved Senate Bill 2679 (SB 2679) yesterday by a vote of 35-0 with two members not voting. SB 2679 expands the state’s existing requirement that insurers pay for OEM parts on claims for 30 months after a vehicle is manufactured to all claims for a period of 48 months. The bill also requires insurers notify all vehicle owners in writing that estimates include non-OEM parts, not just first-party insureds.
