ASA Raises Concern on Vendors Sharing or Selling Collision Repair and Service Shop Customer Data

Association creates data privacy agreement for collision repair and mechanical facilities to use with vendors

The Automotive Service Association (ASA) issued a warning that some third-party vendors that collision and service repair shops do business with might be reselling their customers’ data in detail, or as an aggregate, to third parties, without the repair facilities knowledge.

The association warns that as a result of this practice, shops could be incurring additional liability and potential exposure to lawsuits.

ASA has developed a Data Security Policy Agreement/Addendum for repair facility operators wishing to ensure the protection of their customer data.
