Indiana Legislation Proposes Collision Repair Anti-Steering Restrictions on Both Repairers and Insurers

Legislation would restrict shops from intimidating customers against using an insurance claim drive in facility, protect repair facilities from insurance company steering, vendor requirements.

Indiana Senate Bill 164 (SB 164), introduced by State Senator Mark Messmer, seeks to define and prohibit several practices by both collision repair facilities and insurance companies that affect their relationships with customers.

Indiana Senate Bill 164SB 164 would add Section 2 to IC 24-5-0.5-13 dealing with unfair, abusive and deceptive practices that would define deceptive acts by repair shops and would prohibit repair facilities from any of the following activities:

  • Coerce or intimidate the insured or claimant to
