Waymo, the former Google self-driving car project, announced it is vehicles have started operating on public roads in the Phoenix, Ariz. market without drivers. Until this announcement, Waymo’s autonomous vehicle fleet had operated on public roads with a test driver at the wheel.
According to Waymo, a subset of its fleet will operate in fully autonomous mode without the safety drivers and the public is being invited to participate in the initiative.
