Mobile Air Conditioning Society Reminds Industry on January 1 Refrigerant Sales Restriction Deadline

Distributors of refrigerants will be limited to certified technicians and businesses who employ them starting in 2018

The Mobile Air Conditioning Society (MACS) is reminding automotive technicians who service mobile A/C systems and distributors who sell refrigerant of the need to be aware of new regulations effective on January 1, 2018 concerning the requirement of technicians to be Section 609 certified.

MACS logoThe final rule published November 2016 extends Section 608 requirements to HFCs. Starting Jan. 1, 2018, sale of most refrigerants of two pounds or larger will be restricted to 608 and 609- certified technicians; distributors must keep refrigerant sales
