U.S. DOT Releases New Automated Driving Systems Guidance

On the same day the National Transportation Safety Board found the design of Tesla’s AutoPilot system contributed to a fatal crash, regulators provide updated guidance to pave way for increased automation.

The U.S. Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) yesterday released new federal guidance for Automated Driving Systems (ADS):  A Vision for Safety 2.0. This is the latest guidance for automated driving systems to industry and States. While association’s representing vehicle manufacturers were supportive of the guidance, consumer safety advocate reaction was mixed.
