Trying to understand how the Bosch/Mitchell tool can maintain or access, complete J2534-2 protocol calibrations and diagnostics.in the shop. To date – I don’t know of an AM scan tool out there can perform this. completely.
OEM connections/tools are the only ones that can perform complete access and adjustments to the protocols.
How about Software updates cost to the tool -how is this factored into the cost of the scan/investment?
Does the shop tech still have to review/read/perform OEM recommended testing for apparent fault codes? Is this factored into your cycle time results?

The Mitchell MD-350 tool includes a J-2534 Vehicle Communication Interface (VCI) that allows for servicing and programming of ECU’s via the J-2534 standard. While no aftermarket tool can offer 100% of the features found on all of the OEM tools – the Bosch tools that are part of Mitchell Diagnostics are best-in-class and cover most of the needs for diagnostics related to collision repairs. Bosch manufacturers many OEM scan tools and is also the leading Tier-1 supplier of ADAS systems and vehicle control modules, so they have a leadership position in processing diagnostic data.
The tool is designed to be connected to the Internet during operation – and vehicle data updates are automatically downloaded to the tool as they are published by Bosch. Everything involved in the solution is covered by modest one-time fee and a monthly subscription. The subscription covers all the data updates, enhancements and maintenance on the Mitchell Diagnostics software, and full hardware warranty on the device.
The cycle times shown are “artist renderings”. Proper and safe repair planning should always include determining exactly what options and equipment are installed on the vehicle, and researching the fault codes and any required procedures and calibrations needed to complete the repairs. The nice thing about Mitchell Diagnostics is that the tools carry a browser and come pre-loaded with repair information databases – so that you can access OEM and 3rd party repair data right from the tool.
