The introduction of automated vehicles got a boost yesterday as the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee Subcommittee on Digital Commerce and Consumer Protection, chaired by Rep. Bob Latta (R-OH), approved bipartisan self-driving vehicle legislation that would preempt state and local regulation in favor of federal rules on self-driving vehicles. The legislation provides the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) with authority to regulate highly automated vehicles.
