Electric Vehicles Reach 2 Million Cars On Roads Globally in 2016

China was the largest EV market in 2016, accounting for more than 40 percent of new sales globally. 160,000 EVs sold in U.S. in 2016

The number of electric cars on the roads around the world rose to 2 million in 2016, following a year of strong growth in 2015, according to the latest edition of the International Energy Agency’s Global EV Outlook. Even with the growth, however, electric vehicles only made up 0.2 percent of total passenger light-duty vehicles in circulation in 2016. 

China remained the largest market in 2016, accounting for more than 40 percent of the electric cars
