Auto Care Association and Coalition for Auto Repair Equality Concerned Vehicle Manufacturers Will Comply with Massachusetts Right to Repair Act

June 7, 2017 By CollisionWeek Editor

Expanded Model Year 2018 requirements include OEM diagnostic and repair software access using industry standard interfaces.

The Auto Care Association and Coalition for Auto Repair Equality (CARE) are concerned that all vehicle manufacturers will be in compliance with new Right to Repair requirements that will take effect for 2018 and later model year vehicles in Massachusetts. While I applaud this bill and the attention placed on vehicle repair information availability, it focuses on information that is available through the dealer networks. Tesla as an example, and more reflective of automotive service information, not collision information.
When is the bill going to be re-purposed to require manufacturers that sell vehicles in the US that do not provide and or publish information for collision related services. Hyundai is the biggest culprit. This is a travesty that should not be allowed by Right to Repair legislation. Hyundai provides some collision information but it is confined to Canada and Europe.
Basically this – If a vehicle manufacturer sells vehicles in the US, they should be required to provide, publish ALL repair information to the masses.

    Thanks
