California Adopts New Collision Repair Anti-Steering Regulations

According to Insurance Commissioner new rules prevent illegal steering and ensure unfettered consumer choice of repair shops and more timely damage inspections.

Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones yesterday issued new anti-steering regulations covering insurance company interactions with consumers in need of collision repair that increase protections to prevent consumers from being misled or claims delayed when a collision-damaged vehicle needs to be repaired. 

California Anti-Steering RegulationThe new rules prohibit insurers from making untruthful, deceptive, or misleading statements about a collision repair center to consumers that unreasonably influence a consumer’s right to select the repair facility. These new regulations complement existing state consumer protection laws
