Louisiana Issues Reminder to Insurance Companies on Flood-Damage Vehicles

Following the federal declaration of disaster for Louisiana, the Department of Insurance is issued a reminder to insurance companies regarding Certificate of Destruction title requirements.

Louisiana Department of Insurance SealAccording to the Department, in accordance with La. R.S. 32:707.3, when, as a result of an insurance settlement, a motor vehicle is determined to be a total loss due to water damage, Louisiana law requires that the insurance company that acquires ownership of the vehicle shall within 30 days from the settlement of the claim, send the certificate of title to the Office of Motor Vehicles along with an application for a Certificate of Destruction.
