Deren Batterson and his 12-year-old son, Jake, recently bicycled 500 miles in this year’s RAGBRAI, the Des Moines Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, to raise money for the Livestrong Foundation that supports families stricken by cancer. The week-long event was held July 23-29.

Deren, an estimator and repair planner at Arnold’s Body Shop in Davenport, Iowa, has participated in the ride for eight years, raising money for the Livestrong Foundation after a co-worker lost their son to cancer.
