The official announcement in January 2014 by Ford Motor Company that its 2015 Ford F-150 would include an aluminum-intensive body structure was the culmination of years of planning by the vehicle manufacturer. Moving to an aluminum structure for the body was not just a watershed moment for the auto industry, whose eyes are firmly fixed on increasing fuel economy and emissions standards for the vehicles, but also the collision repair industry.
